You look at the stairs in the cliff. It is very far to the top and you are scared. You start the climb to the top but half way up you lose your nerve. You look down and find that you are too afraid to go any further. You are also too afraid to go down again but you know that you can't stay there forever so you shut your eyes and climb, feeling your way up the rough and jagged cliff face. It hurts your hands and you can feel the sharp rocks cutting into you. You get almost to the top. Unfortunately you climb onto an unstable area of rock and fall from the cliff. It is a very long way down and you are not able to go on.
